What happened when I tried a Broth & Greens Cleanse

I'm not going to lie, I do love a juice cleanse. There's so many mixed opinions about the whole thing, but I'm in the pro-fasting camp as there as so many studies that highlight incredible benefits for your body. As a matter of fact, I feel like it's very natural and necessary for optimal health. If you think about it, back when we had to hunt and gather our food, we wold have naturally fasted between meals, which could be as long as 2-3 days. Your body is designed to cope, which is why we store fat, to be used in times of famine.

Personally, I feel like there is something magical and restorative about giving my body a break from eating for three days. I acquire more energy, clearer skin, reduced bloating and water retention, better sleep and an develop an overall chirpy, chilled and connected demeanor.

I have tried a lot of cleanses in the past. There have been some amazing companies that have sadly stopped operating, and there have also been some very disappointing experiences that have failed to wow me with juice quality and customer service.

So trying another new cleanse company was like going on another blind date. I was very cautious, but with so many amazing personal recommendations I figured it would be a safe bet.

Sol Cleanse has been around since 2012, which is the same year as I got married, so I figured it must be a good omen. They are all about organic, health and wellbeing. My kind of people.

Since the weather has started to cool down here in Brisbane, and juice cleanses tend to make me feel cold normally, I was delighted to see the Broth and Greens option, so I ordered the three day pack for $199.

This cleanse was designed especially for people who are looking to eliminate all sugars from their diet, or who are familiar with cleansing and want to take it to the next level.

This cleanse is completely fructose free - the only fruit used is lemons, and the only sweetness is stevia, a natural herb that imparts a sweet taste without actually being a sugar.

The Broths + Greens cleanse focuses on the alkalising and detoxing benefits of leafy greens, and the nourishing qualities of vegan broths and miso soup.

Each day consists of six organic elixirs including:

lemon, stevia, cayenne pepper, filtered water

This spicy elixir is a great way to start the day. A powerful metabolism booster that will give your system a kickstart in the morning and promote weightloss. This combination boosts your circulation and aids your digestive system to help flush out toxins, waste products, and excess fluid. It will also balance your pH levels to neutralise any acidity in your body, and may suppress your appetite

filtered water, kale, sea vegetables, carrot, celery, onions, garlic,  coconut oil, himalayan salt

This satisfying Vegan broth will deeply nourish your cells. The goodness is gently simmered from the organic vegetables, then the vegetables are removed to eliminate the fibre from the broth. The sea vegetables will bring you a bounty of necessary minerals which are lacking in most western diets. Heat gently (preferably in a saucepan)

silverbeet, cos lettuce, cucumber, celery, parsley, lemon

A powerful detoxifying veggie + lemon juice, this elixir is loaded up with alkalising greens, giving the cleanse a savoury balance. It also helps kidney function, expelling excess water and flushing the kidneys. Like all green juice, this juice contains powerful anti-ageing antioxidants, and a plethora of vitamins and minerals. In addition, this blend has particular bone strengthening qualities.

1 x ZEN

soy bean, rice, sea salt, koji starter (aspergillus oryzae)

This locally made Miso soup is hand-made from Australian-grown GMO-free certified organic soybeans and organic Australian rice and koji. It is unpasteurised and has been fermented for 6 months, making it a "live" food rich in enzymes, probiotics and antioxidants. Heat gently (preferably in a saucepan).

You just have drink a juice of your choice every two hours and sip tea and lots of water in between.

Day one was a little tough, followed by day two which was absolutely horrendous. By day three I was feeling like I could do another couple of days. My hunger had subsided, I was feeling calm, and my body had de-puffed. My tummy was flat, and my skin was also glowing.

What I really loved about the whole cleanse was their focus on sustainability and the environment. There is no plastic! Each juice comes in a glass jar that you can keep or recycle.

You also get:

  • A reusable metal straw
  • Psyllium husks to support your cleansing process
  • Probiotics for a happy tummy
  • Daily emails with inspiration and advice
  • Yoga sequences to enhance your cleanse
  • Basic pre and post cleanse advice to get the most from your cleanse
  • Love and support from the Sol Cleanse Team!
  • A complimentary 14 day pack of Organic Be Light Tea
  • A metal reusable tea strainer

This was a well rounded cleanse and suited for the more advanced cleansers. I probably would not recommend this for the virgin cleanse. If you have cleansed before then this will definitely take your experience to the next level. If you're new to cleansing however I would recommend opting for Level 1 or 2 and working your way up to stronger deprivation.

Overall, I highly recommend this. This was not a sponsored post, just giving credit when credit is due. An amazing company, doing good things. Keep up the good work guys!

Has this ever happened to you? You're all pumped up about going to a gym class and need a workout buddy, you call your BFF (naturally) and she's not feeling it. Need a movie date to a new chick flick, speed dial your BFF and she's not there. If you're a mum, have you ever made plans with your fellow BMF (best mum friend) and she cancels on you because her baby is sick, or she's just having a bad day. If you have said yes to any of the above you generally have three options... go on your own, call in the B team, or completely cancel and eat a tub of ice cream because you feel rejected (or is that just me). Never again ladies! Your new BFF could be just a swipe away!

In an often isolating world, sharing our experiences as mothers on instagram has helped so many mums connect with other like minded souls going through the same highs and lows. I have loved watching fellow Brisbane super mum of five (yea mama!), Abbey Braithwaite, share her motherhood journey with the world. Her pictures are peppered with tiny fingers grabbing tasty morsels that she prepares and magical adventures with her little people. There is, of course, much more to this beautiful woman than you can share on instagram.
