How to glow from within

We've all heard that saying, beauty comes from the inside. There is a lot of truth to this saying, because your gut health has a lot to do with how healthy you look on the outside.

When my diet is not optimal, my face is the first place to publicly broadcast my sins to the world with the odd breakout, dull skin and bags under my eyes. On the contrary when all things are running smoothly, especially after a cleanse when my tummy has had time to restore some natural balance down there, my skin glows.

If your gut has taken a beating over the years with junk food, sugar, alcohol and other sins, getting your gut to function properly can take some time and you should definitely seek out some professional naturopathic help to rule out any parasites and intolerance. If, like me, you're after a little digestive boost, then probiotics and prebiotics are a great way to give your gut a helping hand.

A healthy gut is important not just for healthy skin. The quality of your gut flora will impact your energy levels, digestion, concentration, immune functions, conditions such as eczema and other allergies too.

Most of us are well aware of probiotics. They're the good bacteria we need in our digestive tract to keep things running smoothly. Prebiotics are components of fibre rich foods that are not easily digested by us humans, which is good news for our beneficial bacteria, because what we don't digest, they thrive on! Eating prebiotics is like sending your good bacteria a packed lunch, to keep up the good work.

Tubers, greens and other plant foods offer a great source of prebiotics that feed our good bacteria, provide us with energy and give us fibre to keep thigns regular down there. Other foods that act as prebiotics include:

  • Fresh Dandelion Greens
  • Radicchio
  • Frisee
  • Endive
  • Jerusalem Artichoke
  • Onions
  • Asparagus
  • Chicory
  • Jicama
  • Garlic
  • Wheat & Sprouted Wheat
Popular prebiotics include garlic, onion, Jerusalem artichoke, dandelion greens and more - See more at:

For most of us, we'd probably manage to get a bit of sweet potato, garlic and onions on our plate from that list, so for a bit of variety a little supplementation can help.

I've put The Beauty Chef, Inner Beauty Powder to the test for the last 30 days and must say the results on my skin have been astonishing. My skin texture has started to change after about day 15.

Made using 23 natural and organic skin loving super foods, this delicious berry powder has everything you need for healthy glowing skin, not just the probioti and prebiotic goodness. It's rich in anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids and amino acids found from fruits, vegetables, grains and legumes; the bioavailability of these ingredients is improved by our unique natural fermentation process.

The superfoods in this little tub of goodness, have undergone a unique fermentation process that "pre-digests them, making them more available for the body to use. The benefit to you is that this makes it a lot easier for your body to utilise.

Essentially the Inner Beauty Powder is a complete package that gives you the good bacteria and the food they need to thrive. How good is that? It's also wholefood derived, and not grown in some petri dish in a lab, which makes this a more natural alternative to over the counter probiotics that you can buy from the chemist.

Because this is made with wholefoods, it's perfectly safe to give to children aged one and over.

Dosage guidelines:

1-3yrs – 1/8 tsp daily.

4-8yrs – ¼ tsp daily
8-12yrs – ½ tsp
Over 12yrs – same as adult dose.

Always start the dosage off lower and slowly build to the recommended daily dose.

The best news is it tastes great and comes in powder form making it easy to add to smoothies or just to have in water.

A 150g tub will set you back $59.96 which lasts approximately 30 days. You can purchase it directly through The Beauty Chef, and hopefully we'll be stocking it here soon also.
