Spice it up - how to be a MasterChef in your kitchen + WIN Mingle Seasoning Pack

My repertoire of dinners used to be pretty average (read boring, and inedible) until I discovered the magic of spices. Prior to that the only way food used to have that wow factors, was when I would slave away in the kitchen following a recipe from a beautiful cook book. Now I can look at my fridge and based on my built in knowledge of flavours whip up something quick and delicious by adding a dash of this and that. My husband marvels at how this happens, but it's honestly a matter of practice. If you struggle to "create" in the kitchen, this is going to change your life. Print it out, stick it on your fridge, and start experimenting.

Ditch the nasty premade sauces and condiments as the usually are high in hydrogenated fat, additives and sugar instead try the following tricks to enhance the flavour factor of any meal.

Swap regular, refined salt for natural sea salt or  Himalayan Salt instead of regular, refined salt – use liberally for enhancing the flavour of foods, helping the digestion of food, and adding minerals in their natural form.

Use apple cider vinegar instead of balsamic red wine or white vinegar, it aids digestion.

Use lots of fresh and dried herbs and spices to add flavour to food.

For Asian meals: Coconut oil, coriander, lemon grass, garlic, ginger, galangal, chilli, fresh Vietnamese basil, lime juice & lime zest.

For Indian meals: Coconut oil or ghee, turmeric, cumin, bay leaves, cinnamon sticks, cloves, curry leaves, ginger, garlic and chilli

For Italian meals:  Olive oil, fresh Italian parsley, basil, oregano, garlic, tomato

For Greek meals: Olive oil, fresh lemon & lemon zest, parsley, rosemary or thyme, cucumber, and a lotsa garlic! Opa!

If you're seriously strapped for time, or just want to make your life a little easier look for pre-made flavourings that have nothing but the real deal in them. Just herbs and spices and nothing else. My pick of the bunch is Mingle Seasoning.
