Sustainable Travel Essentials For Your Next Holiday

Posted by Valeria Ramirez on

Packing beauty products is the bane of my existence because it used to take up half my suitcase to pack the hair dryer, the hair straightener, the brushes, the hair products including shampoos, conditioner, hair masks, balms, sprays, then add the toiletries, the make up, the brushes, the makeup remover, well you get it, it's a never ending list.

On our recent trip to the Cook Islands I've opted to travel light and packed the bare minimum to get by.

For my face I've packed a Church Farm Calendula Soap. It seems so crazy to use soap on my face, but this baby is so gentle and leaves my skin feeling silky smooth without drying it out. Amanda from Church Farm designed this soap to be gentle enough to use on her little ones' skin, and swears by it as a daily cleanser. I cut my bar in half to save space, and use it as a cleanser now.

To moisturise I packed my Biologi Bd Luminosity Face Serum which is great for both morning and night and gives my skin a dewy glow. I also packed a little treat for my face, and enjoyed a Little Bliss Detoxifying Charcoal Masque to help cleanse away any nasties built up on my skin during the flight.

Sun and Earth Zinc

For the sun, I love the Sun and Earth Natural Zinc. This little jar is tiny but mighty with long lasting SPF30+ protection. It also doubles up as a tinted moisturiser, giving my face a glowing complexion and sun protection when I'm out and about.

The cool thing about all these products is that they are 100% unisex, so my hubby is loving the fact that he can use exactly the same skin care as me.

Wipes are really handy when you're traveling. I packed the new Jak Organics wipes range including the Face and Body wipes to cleanse on the go, and the new Glow wipes to help extend my tan. The Jak Organics wipes are made with bamboo and are 100% biodegradable which makes them extremely sustainable. These wipes were very handy on the flight as I could just freshen up quickly and effortlessly.

Fragrances can take up a lot of space in your suitcase, especially when you're taking full size products. I love the convenience of the Solid State Solid Fragrances. These pocket sized scents smell amazing and will never leak allover your luggage. Hubby loves Freshman with bitter citrus, Bergamot and Persimmon, while I love the Wayfarer which has subtle notes of tobacco, vanilla and exotic spices. It reminds me of my Tobacco Vanille eau de Parfum by Tom Ford, except this baby is 100% natural and a fraction of the size and price.

The Ever Eco Long Handle Tote may not be a beauty product but has been very handy as a beach tote and shopping bag for the markets. It takes up virtually no space, but can hold a lot of stuff.

For everything else like shampoo and make up I've downsized by pouring what I need into reusable bottles to save space. Make up I've packed a bronzer, blush, lip gloss and some mascara to add a little bit more glam to the evenings.

As a supplement I love the Vida Glow Beauty Blend. This blend keeps my tummy happy when I travel, and gives me everything I need for healthy skin, hair and nails. Boosted with antioxidant-rich chia seeds, flaxseeds, pumpkin seeds, blueberries and raw cacao powder, this nutrient-rich formula is an incredible source of vitamins C and K, manganese fibre and copper. It is rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fatty acids, proteins and probiotics, which all work hard to support the immune system and provide a nourishing boost for a brighter complexion and increased energy.

For my hair my straightener is non-negotiable. It comes everywhere with me. I left my hair dryer behind, and opt for letting my hair dry naturally or use the tiny one supplied by the resort. Not ideal, but I'm on holidays and my hair is either wet or tied up 99% of the time.

My girls at Rokstar Salonz in West End, Brisbane suggested I pack the Olaplex leave-in treatment  to rehydrate my blonde locks after being in the salty water and out in the sun, and the R+CO Tinsel Smoothing Oil to keep the frizz at bay. I love the R+CO range because it smells amazing, it's vegan and because it manages to tame my Russian mane which can be very dry and unruly.
